Heading into round 2 of the F3 Cup point’s leader Toby Sowery heads a competitive felid of young drivers tipped to be future stars.
Changeable conditions greeted the championship as it rolled into Silverstone this weekend (28/04/2014), qualifying was overcast with rain showers but it wasn’t enough to stop Sowery continuing his 100% record. The young Cambridgeshire man admitted that the dominant showing, which saw him claim pole was a surprise.
“We didn’t expect that.” Sowery revealed. “We didn’t know who was going to be quick today. We had a day here yesterday and conditions were completely different to today but we managed to get a good piece of track and get a good time out of it.”
Race two was a lights to flag victory for Sowery, pulling out a 24 second lead ahead of the chasing pack. In his pursuit for the chequered flag he also claimed the fastest lap securing pole position for race two.
“It was an awesome race.” Sowery beamed. “We didn’t have the best of starts but it was a bit wet, so I thought I’d just get off the line cleanly. I managed to get a bit of a gap and saw Tristan had come through into second. That put a bit of pressure on, seeing him right in the mirrors.
Race two made it four from four for Sowery, who despite, losing out on the charge to the first corner was quick to regain first position and increase his lead to a comfortable margin. Taking maximum points for the second weekend in a row, Sowery stretches his lead at the top of the standings.
He said: “It’s been another perfect weekend, Lanan have done a great job setting the car up, teaching me how to drive it round these tracks, going through data, everything you can really cover they’ve done a good job in.”
Red Line Synthetic Oils are very proud to be working with Lanan and Toby, the team are experts in their field and go the extra length in their pursuit of success.
