Round 3 of the Irish Drift Championship saw series co-ordinator David Egan challenge the world to take on Ireland at the heart of Irish motorsport, Mondello Park.
Many answered the call, from Japanese D1 competitors Robbie Nishida and Daigo Saito to the cream of British drifting Phil Morrison and Danny Eyles. News from the North came, David confirmed his entry and the V10 Nissan Silva was set to make its Irish début.
David qualified 8th in the top 32 with an initial entry of 90mph, moving into the knockout stages he faced the formidable Robbie Nishida.
Leading the first pass David pulled away into turn one, Robbie took a shallow line through turn two to get back on his bumper. David takes the advantage!
Run two was again closely contested; Robbie showed huge commitment into turn one with David right on his door, David was forced to take a slightly shallower line for turn two to stay with the Japanese driver. Robbie aces his run perfectly executing all the clipping points around the course. The decision lies with the judges who call it. ONE MORE TIME...
As both drivers prepare to do battle once again each are fighting to stay in the competition. David puts it all on the line, rubbing the wall through turn one and running the outside white line all the way around the corner. Robbie makes a huge drive into turn two to say close but takes a shallow line.
Robbie leads the final run with David right on his passenger door, David has to back off into turn two creating the smallest of gaps for Robbie. David closes him down in turn three and it goes to the judges.
David exits the competition knowing he faced the best in the world and gave his all, his self built machine not only sets the standard but it never misses a beat.
